Family-owned businesses cornerstone of local economy

Family-owned enterprises are the cornerstone of Abu Dhabi’s thriving private sector. Abu Dhabi’s successful family groups are known not only for their spectacular financial success but also for their commitment to promoting the on-going economic diversification and development of Abu Dhabi and the UAE. All are also strong supporters of humanitarian initiatives.

Among the many successful family companies in Abu Dhabi is the Al Jaber Group, active in the construction sector (particularly major infrastructure projects) and in many other sectors. Founded by H.E. Obaid Khalifa Jaber Al Marri, the group is now one of the largest and most diversified conglomerates in the Middle East. Its COO, Fatima Al Jaber, is one of the regions’s most prominent female business leaders.

The Al Masaood Group is another local and regional success story. Founded in 1944 by Mohammed Bin Masaood, the group is headed today by Abdulla Al Masaood. Over its more than 50 years of operations, it has grown from a small trading house to one of the biggest trading and commercial organizations in the Arab world. Humaid Al Masaood, Abdulla Al Masaood’s son, is helping to ensure the group’s continued dynamic expansion.

Award-winning operations

The Al Fahim Group is another prominent family-owned enterprise. Founded in 1958 by Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, the group is headed today by Saeed Abdul Jalil Al Fahim and his brothers, including Aamer Al Fahim. One of the largest and most successful family groups in the region, the Al Fahim Group is also a leader in supporting local humanitarian and development projects. It was named “Best Family Business of the Year” in 2007 at the Middle East Business Achievement Awards. Aamer Al Fahim also serves as a member of the board of the Federal National Council, Abu Dhabi Aviation, and other leading enterprises.

Al Sayegh Group, established 70 years ago, now includes 29 companies active throughout the world in the chemical, and engineering, real estate and services sectors. The group achieves total sales of around USD 200 million per year.
