The Barbados Light & Power Company
“Our rates and service quality are very customer-focused.”
The Barbados Light and Power Company (BLPC) provides reliable supplies of electrical power for its customers in Barbados.
Managing Director Peter Williams explains, “Our objective is to make Barbados attractive as a business base, so our rates and service quality are very customer-focused.”
BLPC is expanding its distribution network to support new development and updating its facilities to boost capacity. The company recently opened a new, environmentally friendly USD 70 million base-load plant, and with installed capacity of around 240 megawatts and peak demand around 164 megawatts, BLPC has the reserves it needs to maintain service reliability. Investors can count on BLPC.
TeleBarbados
“You can achieve the American dream in Barbados.”

Brian Harvey, President
TeleBarbados is a leading local provider of voice and data telecom services. When it entered the market three years ago, TeleBarbados brought a second sub-sea cable to Barbados (the TeleBarbados sister company, GCN has a cable connecting 13 islands in the eastern Caribbean) and introduced competition that led to prices dropping by around 70 percent. As a result, several new call centers have opened on the island that together employ more than 1,000 people.
According to Brian Harvey, President, TeleBarbados mainly serves the corporate sector at present, but it expects its residential business to match or surpass its corporate business by 2010. “We are getting new broadband customers every day. For both the corporate and residential segments, we differentiate ourselves through customer service. The majority of our clients are repeat clients and come to us through referrals from other customers,” he says proudly.
Harvey praises the quality of Barbados’s telecom sector, which now features cutting-edge technologies, lower prices and competitive operators. He concludes, “Barbados offers international-standard telecom service on par with what is available in the United States. In addition, for American investors and companies, outsourcing call centers to Barbados is cheaper than if you outsource to India. You can achieve the American dream for yourself here in Barbados.”
