Euregio Meuse-Rhine
Situated in the heart of Europe is a cross-border area encompassing three nations, five partner regions, and three languages. The Euregio Meuse-Rhine, as it is known, is located where Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands meet. With a population of 3.7 million comprising Dutch, German and French speakers, the Euregio Meuse-Rhine is a successful example of European cooperation and partnership.
Regional hub in northwest Europe
The Euregio Meuse-Rhine encompasses five active partner regions: the province of Limburg in the Netherlands, the province of Limburg in Belgium, the province of Liège in Belgium, the region of Aachen in Germany, and the German-speaking community in Belgium. From the point at which the three nations meet, the entire Euregio Meuse-Rhine is within an hour’s driving distance.
The five partner regions have come together to capitalize on their collective assets. The Euregio Meuse-Rhine lies at the crossroads of major north-south and east-west road and rail links, is served by major inland waterways, and contains two international airports (at Liège and Maastricht-Aachen). Almost half the population of the European Union lives within a day’s truck journey from the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, and there is a market of 55 million consumers within a 4.5-hour drive.
The Euregio Meuse-Rhine has almost 39,520 acres of enterprise development sites to attract investors, and almost 100,000 students – many specializing in technological subjects – in its universities and higher education institutes. Sophisticated research and development potential has already created more than 100 spin-off enterprises. In the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, the potential for success is unlimited.
